Legion of Shadow - useless ability?

I've just finished reading The Legion of Shadow for the first time. My GOD that was epic. I can't wait to continue on with the series!
But here's something that I found deeply confusing. At the end of the game, during the Bonus Quest, you receive the following ability:
Windwalker (co): If you win a round, you can use all your attack speed dice for your damage score (adding your brawn or magic as normal). You can only use this ability once per combat. (Note: you cannot use modifier abilities to alter these dice results once they are used for your damage score.)
Okay, cool. That sounds like a pretty nice ability.
Wait, the very next passage is THE END OF THE BOOK???
Uh... what? I'm confused. Why would you give us an ability we never get the chance to use?
...
Also, has anyone else ever noticed that LoS doesn't have a section 788? It jumps from 787 to 789! Crazytown.
