You said you're playing a rogue. Most rogues have an ability like Bleed or Venom, which allows you to do 1-2 points of automatic damage at the end of each round. There are some tough opponents immune to this, but it's a great way to defeat the Shadow Terror. If you can keep avoiding its blows, and your high speed helps, it will eventually die no matter how high its armor. I know this doesn't help you much now, and I'm sorry the fight was so tough. Besides items that have Bleed or Venom, I also recommend maxing out your speed and brawn at the expense of armor. You won't be able to take many hits, but your opponents will have trouble landing their own.

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

I did too had many problems with this monster.

I had a 13 Speed and 10 Brawl. I also had the Spark of Life and Sear for extra damage and also a Reposte.

There was no way to defeat this foe. I had to wait and play again and again until i got enough damage on the first few round.
I couldn't change any of my gear since it was already the best and i mean the best i could find and there was no way to acquire some kind of potion to raise my strength.

So i did the same combat over and over again until i got lucky. Not a very pleasant moment in the game.

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

Ha ha, glad you took the honourable approach!

The Shadow Terror is a tough fight and requires some thinking/tactics, but all the more rewarding once the nasty critter is finally laid to rest!

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

I went back and fought the Shadow Terror. Tougher when armour is applied properly. It was the honourable thing to do even though at this point my character easily dispatched this horror!

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

I had NO idea that's how armour worked. I've been playing wrong this whole time. I've been making things needlessly difficult. Thanks for the clarification. It actually makes more sense than the way I've been playing. Maybe the honourable thing to do is go back and fight the shadow terror?

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

Damage does not remove armour. Armour absorbs the damage that a character would have taken. So if you did 10 damage and an opponent has 8 armour, then you do 2 health damage. The amour remains at 8 - unless you use abilities to lower it or ignore it.

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

That's not how I read it at all. If I inflict damage on shadow terror, its armour is first to go. So if I inflict 6 points of damage in the first round, its armour is now ZERO. It goes up to ONE at the end of the round. I'm not sure why this is confusing. Why is its armour immune to damage? It doesn't say so in the text. If that's the case then it cannot be defeated unless you have abilities which ignore armour. It SHOULD say, "At the end of each combat round its armour is restored AND increased by one" for the current interpretation to make sense.

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi Mean Streak,

Yes, I agree Act 2 is tough for mages - I went for Speed over Magic in that Act, so I was hitting a lot but not very hard. It all changed when I became a Pyro (was an Alchemist) - I then started dishing out a fair bit of hurting (nice! )

I am also now the proud wearer of the Diamond of the Tundra, so I do have piercing at last.

I gave up the Pyro career in favour of the Necro in Act 3. I am having an easier time of it now - the Necro can dish out a lot of damage with his Shades ability but you need high Speed to make this career work (which I do have) - the Pyro isn't as reliant on Speed. Think I do prefer the Pyro though (just).

Redoubt - I agree that Book 1 is tougher than Book 2, however I fell at the final hurdle on Book 2 on my first attempt. I didn't make things easy for myself by being Hexed for a large portion of the story and I don't think I got my Warrior build right (a Drake with low armour and high brawn? Didn't seem right somehow). Anyway, I found the final battles of Book 2 were becoming too frustrating and were obviously too much for my poor Warrior build so I gave up. I'll go back to that book as a Rogue on my next go, I think. I too think I prefer Book 1 to Book 2 but I think this might be down to familiarity - I could be wrong. I'm keen to go back to Book 2 after my current LoS playthrough because I missed so much of the Terral Jungle in Act 2.

Cheers all!

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

Its funny. Bk1 is NOT easy and often downright frustrating but it made you WORK for everything. You had to think hard about every choice. Bk2 wasn't the same for me. Loved it but too easy.
Bk1 I go back to all the time. I still relive happy gamebook memories with it I hope the new book returns to the harder challenge. Bk1 overall the best!

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

Act 2 is a toughie for mages when we have to choose between speed and magic on most of our equipment. Some fights a real pain with not enough damage but gets loads easier with Act 3!!

Pyromancer or alchemist essential for Act 2 I prefered pyromancer.

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

This is something I have been asked a few times. I did almost change this encounter when it came to 'patching' but decided in the end to leave it as it was originally written.

The idea/strategy is to (obviously) kill it as soon as possible, before it grows too powerful to defeat. As Mother Lode states, abilities that ignore armour really come into their own here (and that includes passives, like bleed, thorns and venom) - and those that allow for the rolling of extra damage dice.

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

Thanks Mother Lode - unfortunately I don't have 'Piercing' (not sure if there is any Mage gear with this ability). The only ability I have that ignores Armour is 'Backdraft' and I do save that until the last minute but keep rolling low for my three dice of damage. Aarrgh! Frustrating!

Edit: OK - just managed to kill it on my seventh attempt. It had 9 Health left with an Armour of 12 and I used 'Backdraft' and scored a '9'. Phew! I would have probably given it an upper Armour limit though - maybe 12 or something would still make it a challenging fight. Just IMO

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply

LoS - Shadow Terror Question

Hi,

Should the Shadow Terror in the Blue Quest of Act 2 (LoS) have an upper limit on the Armour score that it can reach?

In my current battle, it is on 6 Health remaining but it's Armour rating is at 18 now. I have a Magic of 11 with no damage modifiers left and I have used the only ability I had that ignores armour. So I can no longer damage it (and I have no passive damage effects). Furthermore, I have Lifespark, a high Speed score and high Armour myself which means that it is doing me very little damage (it doesn't often hit me and when it does it is for a small amount - so it is 'chipping' away at my Health). Then I roll a double and get 4 Health back. The fight seems endless and as I can't damage it at all I know is that it will eventually kill me (in maybe 100 rounds or so!)

So my question is - was it intended for the Shadow Terror's Armour to grow too high for it to be damaged or should there have been an upper limit which might have been omitted?

Anyway, I'm giving up the fight and starting again (my damage rolls were pretty poor) as I should be able to beat it as is - but I was just wondering.

Thanks!

Edit: Aargh! I just finished my 6th attempt (using a Glittercap to help this time) and got it down to 1 Health before my Magic went to 10 and it's Aemour went to 16. Why is this fight giving me so much trouble? I know my Magic is a little lower than it would normally be at this stage but I don't recall ever having this issue before (I sacrificed some Magic to get a higher Speed when selecting my gear thus far - as I failed miserably with my last Mage character due to poor Speed and wanted to avoid that mistake this time)

Posted to: LoS - Shadow Terror Question Show Thread | Post Reply
