Sorry for the delay in responding.

The damage is automatic damage and unavoidable (it is not technically a damage roll or damage dice, as written). Therefore, slam could not be used either.

Just a note:
The wreekin mage speed was reduced to 10 in the patched/updated edition. You might be playing the older version of the book. I would check out these patch notes if you want to double-check the balance patch.

Wreekin mage damage

Hello, new here. In LoS, section 491, you fight a Wreekin mage. Instead of rolling damage, he deals 10 damage including armour.

Is this damage still counted as damage dice/damage for the purposes of activating abilities like retaliate/lightning?

In addition, it specifies that you cannot use evade, vanish or sidestep to avoid the damage. I take slam is still on the table?

Thank you all for your help. Because of the way I've built my character it is a very hard fight for me if I cannot use the lighning and retaliate.

DQ2: Absorption ability

in Heart of Fire entry 774 you fight Evin Daala. The enemy has ability called Absoprtion which says (tldr): Each time you play Speed or Combat ability Daala absorbs it and use it against you in the next combat round.

Does this mean your SP/CO abilities have no effect when used? or you can use them as normal but the enemy uses them against you in the following rounds.

Keywords:
Desperado (rode through Red Dawson’s men)
Junk (took the footlocker from the beach)

Dune Sea Character Sheet, Post Prologue

Hi, I've finally back in the mood, to try and play through Raiders of The Dune Sea. However, every time I play, I feel like the prologue drags on, and I never actually get to the main game. I was wondering if anyone had a "dummy" character sheet, that had stats and equipment, that is just after the prologue. I don't really wanna try and play through it again, as I'm sure I'll get bored, and I wanna experience the rest of the game, and hopefully make it to Ragnarok. Thank you

The others were do as promo for Kickstarter campaigns. So, unless I was to do another campaign for DestinyQuest, probably unlikely I'd be doing cards for the other books. Hmm, something for me to think about I guess.

I'm a Rogue with Speed 16, Brawn 25, 0 Magic, 1 Armour -- I just killed Mathis! I rolled a LOT of sixes, but unfortunately only for my attacks.

I thought maybe I made a mistake that I defeated Mathis rather easily, but I've checked with the "Hero Builder" for LoS. At first I thought I made a mistake, because I had noted the "Gorgis Grip" item which doesn't appear in the list. But I've double-checked the entry in the book and and my equipment seems legit.

Hey All, new player here. I found the game a couple days ago, and started playing Legion of Shadow. I nearly finished Act 1 in a day, so needless to say I'm really enjoying it. I read that this is one of the 'weaker' entries being the first gamebook written. If that's the case, I'm hyped about the other books!

My only (slight) concern is that it may become difficult to keep track of all the abilities as I progress. Otherwise, it's great to have finally found something I can play by myself that doesn't require a ton of space or elaborate set up!

No, a damage score is when you roll dice and add your magic or brawn to the total. With Holy Water you would add +2 to this.

First Cut damage is not a damage score - it is a 'passive' damage, like bleed or venom.

Thematically it would make sense for the "Holy Water" special ability to inflict 2 extra damage (see §274). But technically, since you don't throw dice, is the 1 damage from the First Cut ability a "damage score"?

All sorted, and thanks for the lovely feedback.

Yes, there are some story threads that will be returned to in Book 6 that wraps up the Sands of Time trilogy.

Whether I end up doing more book after that, I am not sure. But if I did, then of course, they would be returning to the story of Arran and the Crow King etc. We will see. At the moment, I am heavily invested in the Sunfall set of books, which are coming out sometime next year.

Thanks! Seems like my only reading time is at work breaks, so I haven't played through books 3 to 5, but I recently read them all, so the series is fairly fresh for me. Reading them all back to back actually was quite enjoyable to be able to catch more references and see how the gamebooks have evolved. Spoiler alert. It's all positive.

I'll admit I was a bit disappointed to not find out what the keyword grove was for, but that's more because I was excited to hear more about our jeweled eyepatch friend's fate.

Also... future series(es)? That's exciting! I thought destinyquest was going to be fully wrapped up after book 6, but hey if it's just this storyline that's cool too.

The keyword grove will be relevant in Book 6.
From memory, I don't think there are any other keywords but then I haven't touched DestinyQuest for over two years. -- EDIT: oh, scholar and phoenix are two others.

The other characters from previous books are still very much 'around'. Dune Sea trilogy takes place in an entirely different part of the world. The events that are relevant to Arran etc. relate to Valeron. So they would be taken up in a future series.

Wrath of Ragnarok Leftovers and Wishlist for Book 6

I saw in another forum post the wind scales item is something that'll show up in the next book.

What about the keyword Groves from the dagger sidequest? I was expecting that to come into play for the final boss, but I didn't see anything for it.

Is there anything else that I may have missed that is purely reserved for the 6th book?

Also, a couple things I'd like to see for the 6th book would be a note of what keywords from previous books are still needed.

We got our first character returning for this book and a brief mention of the second book character. What happened to the 3rd and 2nd book character? At the end of the 3rd book, they both seemed intent on stopping Ragnarok. I'd love to see them show up more in the 6th book. (Maybe bring back an optional team battle between all the characters? )

You roll the dice and take damage from all the [1], [2] and [3] results (ignoring any results of [4] or more).

For example,
If you rolled [5], [4], [3], [2], [2] and [6]
You would take 7 damage.

The Wind Serpent is not part of the 'Enclave' questline. It is a different Mythic monster that you would need to defeat.

Wind Scales are a crafting item that will be useful in the next book ;-)

When defeating the Wind Serpent Mythic monster, on prize entries 548, 502, 376 there is no bonus token for "Enclave" quest (514). That bonus is granted on the other 2 Mythic Monster kills so I expected here to be the final one. However I may be wrong because the hero is granted wind scales special item but I have not managed to find a usage.

DQ5: Night fire ability

On episode 617 the night fire creature ability says that you roll certain amount of dice and for each 1, 2 and 3 hero takes damage equal to the total.
I have hard time understanding what total is. Total number of dice? Total value of dice? Total number of dice with value 1 2 and 3? Total value of all dice that rolled 1 2 and 3? Something else may be?

It is only The Heart of Fire that has black and white maps. All the other books still have their colour maps.

The maps from Heart of Fire are available in colour from the Downloads page, if that helps.

Colored/Black and white maps

Currently only have the first two books in the series and was a little down about book 2 having black and white maps. It doesn't take much from the gameplay but was a nice touch being colored. What other books in the series are black and white or is it just book 2? if so i might have to keep my eye out for a pre owned book 2 with color maps. cheers

Hi! Sorry im new here i jist got the book for xmas and i had to ask, how are you supposed to figure out the puzzle on 456 ? Thanks to some replies here i now know to add +1+2+3+4+5 to each row but does it say how to figure it out in the book somewhere ? Did i miss a page somewhere ?

The terms are 'spending' and 'playing'. To play an ability you must use it and follow its effects. To spend an ability, you are removing it from your hero (i.e. not playing it and benefiting from its effects).

So rotation you must play the abilities.
for synchronicity you must spend three abilities you have not played yet.

Is the ability Mauling Strike (mo) single use or does it work every round? It reads 'If your wolf is in aggressive stance, then at the start of a combat round, you can command you spirit wolf to attack. This deals damage equal to your pet's brawn to any opponent, ignoring armour.'

Hydra Fight - DQ4

No matter how good my build is, I’ve never managed to beat the hydra fight at the end of the elemental dungeon dive. Because of the head’s high armour, I’m can never do enough damage before to win before the 50 health head revives. Any tips/ideas on a build that can beat this?

1. Yes, that is part of the joy of mixing and matching modifiers, is that you can create situations to your benefit.

2. It would activate if two dice have the same results. So if you rolled [3], [3], and [6] then it would activate as you have a double.
