I realise I made a mistake - the mage starting health is 50 not 40 (as they receive the demon blood +10 health upgrade at the very end of Raiders)! I went off of my old (Raiders) hero sheet so hadn't made a note of that on the original. Hope the game hasn't been too punishing missing that 10 health! :o

What path do you prefer? I can upload one of my own, if you don't want to use one of those that others have previously uploaded. I have a couple of mage, warrior and rogue heroes.

Keywords is a little tricky as it goes into spoiler territory. Do you remember your outcome from the quest, Knives in the Dark? re: Darius and Anoud? (The quest where you solve the Sultan's murder.)

Also, did you choose affinity with the Sun Dogs or the Cabal?

I’ve misplaced my DQ4 book but still want to play DQ5 in the meantime (I’ll probably replay it when I get it). I need a good dummy character to play with, not too strong, not too weak, the specifics don’t matter. I also don’t remember what all the pets do and other specifics so as many reminders as possible would be ideal, maybe even a quick reminder what the story keywords mean. I think a general dummy character would be a good resource in Downloads for people who lost or can’t currently access their last book.

Once again an impressive build! (I wonder if I put too many heal upgrades in the game, ha ha.)

I actually had a lot of fun playing a lightning mage in my playtesting. In fact it was one of my favourite builds, largely just for the 'feel' of zapping opponents and frying them in their armour That's why I made sure to add items that would enable mage players to maintain these powers as they upgrade.

This mage has completed Wrath of Ragnarok including Black Needle. No loot cards, no legendary pets, just a very synergised build.

I use my lightning spark minion for the passive damage of spark jolt and to boost powerful lightning abilities of forked strike (multiple enemies) and shock blast (one heavily armoured adversary). Against Carthage I had Sporeling as my minion with a necklace that allowed me to cast Poison Cloud.

Dark Mending and Wrath with 2 x Regrowth and 6 x Heal let me do 40 damage in a combat whilst healing for 36 Health, which is amazing.

Then I have lots of abilities that allow me to roll an extra damage die (overload, augment, flame wave and hungry spirits) which are in turn boosted by sear.

I was an Aeronaut for most of the book and Air Strike is a decent attack, but I love the flexibility of Bone Shaman. You will typically be able to win 2-3 combat rounds you would have lost and restore 4-6 points of magic in an average combat.

Will have a break now before attempting Wrath of Ragnarok as a Warrior.

I can't argue with a powerful build like that!

Remember, the book/s aren't balanced around the legendary bonus items and pets (from Kickstarters) so they will always give a boost to stats and bonus abilities. But even so, I can't see you having any problems, ha ha.

This build sailed through the main book. Black Needle was a bit more challenging, but still not very difficult. Mauling Strike from the Prowler career is a brilliant ability, especially when paired with Apex Predator against multiple low health opponents.

I would normally start by playing blaze, gut ripper and piercing in the first round, doing over 50 damage to an opponent.

As in Raiders of the Dune Sea I can swap out my left hand weapon if the opponent is immune to passives. Having bleed and gouge on the same item is so good for this approach. That's the main use of the vault, as well as Haggler's Pride.

Da Boss, don't keep us waiting too long for the end of the trilogy!

Yes, I took a peek at the flowcharts: I have three Careers waiting for me in Act 2. Now I have to plan accordingly and find the necessary weapons (either a sword for the right hand or a dagger for the left).

As for the combo, I beg to differ: plenty of enemies have Body of Metal, which means that I'm "wasting" two slots. I'm going to get rid of Bleed/Gouge as soon as possible, prioritizing Speed over everything else.

I miss dearly Sixth Sense but I found that +1 Magic annoying...

Rogue careers do not become available until Act 2 so I don't think you will have missed one. And rogues only get chance for one pet in Act 2.

Yes, the spark daggers and the bleed/gouge combo is really strong. As you move into Act 2, don't miss out on boosting your speed when you can. It can be tempting to hold onto items because of combo benefits, but remember you will have the vault (soon...) to help you store items etc.

A shame you switched out the starter ring for Kraken bone. Sixth sense is one of the most awesome abilities in the book, in my opinion!

It took me no less than 24 (twenty-four) attempts before the filthy urchins got me the Nightwalker Rags! I swear, those little rascals were doing it on purpose!

I'm Fairly satisfied with the combo Spark Daggers + Bleed + Gouge, which grants me a good headstart against most enemies but I find the Kraken Bone utterly useless.

Beside, I fear that I may have passed the chance for a new Career more than a couple of times; same goes for a Pet.

I hope that Act 2 is somewhat more forgiving, otherwise I'm never going to play DQ5...

Now I am normally all about the speed, but the Sun Dog Striders (new loot card)are so good (3 extra brawn and sneak ability which turns a lost combat round into a win)
that I keep Raider’s Perch (plus ambulatory pads) +3Sp, +1Br (Somersault) in the vault to swap into if speed is really needed (e.g. for a challenge).

Looking at the loot cards for Wrath of Ragnarok I decided to upgrade my chest item as it looks like it will be a long way into the book before chest items become really decent.

I did this build to maximise passive damage and with bleed, gouge, blood mark, toxic blades, spark daggers and virulence it certainly does. I have chosen to keep Shadow Burst (left hand - flintlock) +2Sp, +2Br (Blind, Vanish) and Gallow Splinters (Cloak) +1Sp, +2Br (Immobolise) in the vault in case my opponent is immune to passives.

The vault also has Haggler’s Pride (ring).

Looking forward to starting Wrath of Ragnarok!

Holy moly, it's been a month since I last updated. I took a break from DestinyQuest 2 to focus on my college work since I'm nearing the end of the winter semester. I remember currently going through the Bullets Over Blight Haven Act 1 orange quest, which is nice-I like the undead theme.

To answer your question about morality: it's a leitmotiv of the DQ books, in my opinion.

You already seen in book 1 some different point of views, ad it will happen again in book 3 and 4.
I really like how this is developed by Michael; sometimes behind these good/evil factions, there's a lot of misunderstandings and intolerance, the reader thanxs to the replayability of the books can see things from different perspectives.
Because, in my opinion, at the end it's the classic mistake humanity always does, dividi et impera, you support one side and everything the other faction does is always wrong; At the point that if you found that you were in the wrong side or you did a mistake, the lie is so big that you can not accept the truth and keep living the lie.
at least these are my impressions, also because in book 1 and the intro you just read shows a main character that is always an outcast; after the ending of book 1 it doesn't matter what you did, you are still considered an outcast and persecuted.
Which is a neutral situation that allows you to see people for what they really are, despite their factions.

While journeying across the Fenstone Moors, Noelle tried to recall what her life was like before she was kidnapped and interrogated by that librarian and inquisitor.

She remembered being a maid of a well-known noble. However, she wasn't just a typical maid, but also a swordswoman who can handle her own in a battle; a "maid-knight" she called herself. Her job was cozy and she was paid well, but it came to an end when she developed strange powers, which led to her being forcefully taken away.

But...is that truly what her past was like? She couldn't remember due to the Elysium she had been taking due to the interrogation and the visions she had been experiencing against her will. All she remembered was that she wore a dirtied maid uniform when she was being interrogated by that librarian.

Perhaps there is some truth to what she thought her past was, but for now, she must explore and grow stronger.

So, meet Noelle Arclight, the prophet on the run! She is based off--or well, quite literally is Noelle from Genshin Impact. Only difference is I came up with the last name myself. She will be the last Genshin Impact character I'll use to play through DestinyQuest, considering I've planned out my characters' identities for the third and fourth books already.

I like the start of Book 2 already and I'm surprised that your hero here starts with a lot more than your hero from Book 1, which is neat. I like the town of Carvel and the quality of loot from the two green quests.

If you've seen the text above my heroine's information, I've came up with a small backstory for Noelle to fit within Valeron. However, I don't know what twists this book will give my character (like how Yoimiya was actually shadowborn) and if it will contradict with my backstory for her or not, so I left it up in the air like "Is this really her past? Or did the Elysium from her interrogation affect her state of mind badly?"

Anyways, I am planning on playing as a typical sword-swinging Warrior for this playthrough of DestinyQuest 2: Heart of Fire. I'll post another status update once I get through a few more Act 1 content here.

I guess my only question is if the conflict between the Church and the Wiccans is presented like "gray-and-gray morality" as in, neither side is completely good or evil? Because if I am to be honest, I'm not very comfortable with the church's actions and conquering.

Now I can say I'm done with DestinyQuest 1, at least a playthrough of it. The bonus quest was riveting and its ending being a cliffhanger made me sad for my heroine's fate.

From the bonus quest, I had the keyword "companion" so sorry not sorry, Mathis.

Either way, the final fight was impossible for me without potions, so I had to "cheat" to get to Lansbury's store in Act 3 even if it doesn't make sense, just to buy some healing flasks so I can survive the statues' passive damage onslaught as I decimate the final boss.

Now that I've finished my heroine's journey, she is pretty much ready for Hero-vs-Hero Combat and Team Battles for anyone, user or guest, interested in fighting or teaming up with her.

For fluff and visualizations, Yoimiya's appearance in these special combats is dependent on the following:

- If you are fighting her in Hero-vs-Hero (PvP) combat, then Yoimiya assumes her default appearance before Lorcan forcefully fused himself with her shadow mark. - Even if you use a hero from DestinyQuest 2, 3, or 4 against Yoimiya in battle, she won't assume her post-Lorcan Fusion appearance.

- If you are teaming up with her in team battles (as I know they exist in later DestinyQuest books, can't wait to see them), then to "fit in with continuity," Yoimiya assumes the appearance of Female Lorcan--a wrinkled, old woman of a mage as the result of the forceful fusion.

If you have the "black book" word you can visit a paragraph (part of a section that can be reached even without this code-word, but with the correct choices); It's about the background of a character. Something that you will appreciate in the latest books of the kickstarter trilogy "The Sands of time"

I'm going through the bonus quest as we speak. It is quite unexpectedly tough, but fun!

Yeah, I'll go Warrior next time if I want to play the traditional archer.

As for the keyword, Gilgamesh. If I know what you're referring to...is it that one Act 1 blue quest called The Black Book? If so, then no, I went the goody two shoes route of leaving it guarded by the crusader's ghost. Is there something devilish about it?

Now that you have finished those quests, i can talk about it...do you have the word: black book?
Since you like to play the "archer", i suggest you to try the warrior path next time (it needs the correct "choices" to unleash all of its potential), there is a powerful AoE bow (released as art postcard) that fits perfectly with the warrior path and a specific career ;)

Be ready for the bonus quest! expect...the unexpected!

I've greatly enjoyed the finale of Act 3, the intensity of the situation, and the enemies fought. I'm proud to have gone through Battle of The Bone Fields quest deathless, and the Legion of Shadow boss encounter MOSTLY deathless (I died against Sharroth twice but that was due to unlucky rolls, and I opted to restart the Sharroth fight instead of going to a checkpoint).

I had to ditch the Death Strike bow and part of my Nightwalker Set for better gear, but it was worth it in the end. I did not come across any good gloves to replace my Nightwalker Gloves since I replaced my Nightwalker Tunic very late into Act 3.

As for the orange quest that I failed prior, Waking of the Dead. I restarted the quest and went through it mostly deathless until the final boss, Sammain. I went against the rules and treated Sammain as any other regular encounter that I can redo if I fail, instead of following the book's instructinons. Regardless, Sammain is still no pushover; she's a fun boss to fight against, if a bit frustrating.

And about the ultimate reward of Waking the Dead, Arthurian's Horn? Well, it's still sitting in my heroine's inventory, since I never found a use for it. I overcame my battles through good rolls, clever use of skills, and sheer willpower. Maybe I can homebrew the second book a bit to include the horn as a one-use heirloom item that can't be used until Act 2 or somethin' as a lil' gift to whoever my DestinyQuest 2 character is going to be from their good pal, Yoimiya. ;)

I will post one more status update once I complete the bonus quest and then it's off to DestinyQuest 2!

(P.S. I never really found a use for the Bright Shield ability in the final fight.)

Aye, I've learned from my mistake and I'll take on the remaining Act 3 content as a Shadowstalker, because it's a fantastic career IMO. And as for Death Strike, yeah, I get you. I love the bow, but it seems to have served its purpose. I might replace it when I come across a good left hand weapon.

Anyways, here is a status update on my heroine in Act 3! I planned on doing a status update before that showed Yoimiya's current stats at the End of Act 2/Start of Act 3, but I didn't get the chance to, so that's like a missing episode right there if we were to imagine Yoimiya's journey as a movie or a TV show. Regardless, a LOT has happened.

New, shiny loot! I've recently completed the blue quest in Act 3, Against All Odds, and I love it! Disclaimer, however, my heroine's current equipment is NOT the same as the equipment she wore when she entered that quest.

Anywho, I like the last-stand type of feeling where your player character and four others struggle to keep the undead horde at bay so Lansbury can activate the Angel statue. I also liked how you control your allies in battle, while your player character doesn't join in unless your current ally dies. However, I've bent the rules to give Laine and co. a higher chance of survival:

1. Upon beginning the battle, my hero (Yoimiya) will activate her pre-combat abilities, which in this case, is the Bull's Eye from Death Strike, and also apply passive damage effects. I rationalized it as her spotting the fight between one of her allies and the enemy and providing aid with her bow before leaving it to her ally to win their battle.

2. If the ally's HP falls below 10, they fall back and my heroine tags in to finish the battle.

Despite the new conditions I've put in place, Witchfinder Gull was the only ally to fall in battle, so no special achievement in this playthrough. Oh well.

I don't think you can restart a quest after you complete or fail it, but I will break the rules and "restart" Waking the Dead since I never got to see the rest of the quest due to losing my first battle against the apprentice necromancer. I want to see what makes it epic, as Gilgamesh says, and maybe I can find some neat loot. My reasoning could be that most of Zul's forces left the necropolis, allowing Yoimiya and co. to sneak back in. Unlike her last visit, Yoimiya will be better prepared.

I'll post another status update once I finish most of Act 3's content.

Also, giving a shoutout to the Magmageddon reward weapon, Burning Heretic. It's a solid +3 speed, +3 brawn sword that served its purpose when my heroine wielded it. Not to mention, having Critical Strike alongside Gut Ripper felt very nice.
