I'm afraid unlikely as the whole book would need to be laid out again, as changing the font would cause issues with spacing and layout.

It's something I can raise with my publisher once I get to my next printing to see how much they would charge me.

Hello,

regarding the font I noticed the new book 5 - "The wrath of Ragnarog" finally comes back to the original font used in books 1 - 3 (with serifs) in comparison to book 4 (without serifs). As I mentioned before the one used in book 4 is definitely harder to read, any chance to have another printing with the same font as used in all the other books?

I don't have any immediate plans to do a Kindle version of DQ4 at the present time. But it is something I could look into around the time of the DQ5 release/kickstarter - which is some time off I am afraid, as not made a start on the writing!

So, it's a possibility, but some ways off I am afraid.

The second printing of DQ IV: Raiders of Dune Sea should be done in the next week or so - and hopefully be back in stock on most online retail sites shortly after.

In the mean time, if you are already a fan and you've enjoyed the book, then please pop a review on your respective Amazon site to help spread the word! (Only 1 review of Dune Sea on Amazon.uk!)

Planning will resume on the next book very shortly, and hope to start writing towards the end of this year.

Yes, Raiders of Dune Sea is the first part of a two book story line. If/when I write the next one, then I would probably run a Kickstarter to help with funding and promotion.

And it kinda make sense to have it in the same format as other books . I am just receiving your first book from Amazon.de, and will purchase other books as I went through the content.I had to tone down my compulsory buying disorder and order all books at once.... sorry

I see that the book IV will be in two parts. Is that right? Will you make another kickstarter maybe?

@Gamer_solo Thanks for the kind feedback and helping spread the word on the books. Yes I was aware of gamebooks.org but wasn't sure if it was still maintained and updated. Will take a look...

@Aarionn I'm afraid the hardback is no longer available - Megara who produced it (and rather badly if I say so myself...) have now gone out of business. There is only the softback version available now. The bonus quest that featured in the hardback is available on the downloads page of this site, if you are interested.

Have you been to a site named gamebooks.org, maintained by Damien Katz? Plenty of gamebooks/cyoa reviews in there. I think it is the most complete archive of gamebooks. I had written a review for The Legion of Shadow back in the day on that site and I also posted that on Amazon. Suddenly remembered this and wanted to share it with you. Here is the full review:

First and foremost, all books in this series are like self-contained epics. They are huge in volume and people looking simultaneously for depth and length in a gamebook would be amply rewarded if they come across the first book in the DestinyQuest series, The Legion of Shadow. The book is divided into three acts, each act complete in itself. There are various quests which are marked on the map according to their difficulty. Boss fights are also there which are a boon for players due to the attractive bonus items made available after the fight is over. The game system is well-structured and the combat rules are pretty smooth. You can travel anywhere you want, explore markets and towns, buy stuff, help NPCs and keep customizing your character with better and still better gear. There is no permadeath. You can start playing again from the point where you died and play the same quest again or choose a different one from the map. Dice determine the outcome here, the randomness of which gets more or less balanced by the game mechanics. Overall, a great game. Do check it out.

Oh and btw, enjoying the third book greatly. Familiar concepts and worldbuilding, yet totally new and refreshing gameplay. You are Da Boss, literally!!

But I have always bought everything from sellers who import books and games from the US and the UK. That saves the huge shipping cost. And let me tell you, your books have always been in stock and I've always received them through Amazon Prime.

That is great news and thanks for sharing. Yes, the books are certainly designed to give that solo campaign/MMO-RPG experience, so I am pleased that they are hitting the mark. If you enjoyed the first two then I am confident that you will love Winter's Fury and Dune Sea!

If you're able to a pop review on amazon.com or amazon.uk some time, then I'd really appreciate it, to help spread the good news... Hello Michael! Ordered book 3, 4 just now. The first two books were tremendous and the effort you had put into it is evident on every page. I am a strictly solo board gamer and want my games to have that "campaign" feel and have a high replayability. DQ fulfills that wish totally. Ordered your books along with the Graphic Novel Adventures box set from Van Ryder Games. I wish you all the health, happiness and success and I want you to keep developing this franchise further. I didn't have too much of a problem with the font - it was the one chosen by the publisher and I was fine with it. Felt easy to read and accessible to me. Obviously it is a smaller font size, because Raiders is a much bigger book and reducing the page extent always helps with costs.

But I'll take your point on board for the future.

What is the reason DQ4 uses different font without serifs in comparison to the other books in the series? Regarding the amount of text included it is actually harder to read it than previous books using serifs fonts. As well the new font appears to be more futuristic and does not match that well the "fantasy" genre to my honest opinion.

It'll be available via Amazon and/or eBay - I'll have plenty of copies (once it's printed) so shouldn't be a problem getting hold of one. If demand is greater than my stock, then I'll just order more.

The colour maps will be in the inside front and back cover (like in DQ3).

Ok, so is it going to be available in the same way as DQ2 reprint (I bought it at bookdepository) or in a limited run sold by you as your reply suggest?

Another question: Are the coloured maps going to be inside middle of the book as in DQ1 or as a part of cover page as in DQ3?

No problem - the hardback version has:

A different cover (obviously)
The Kickstarter bonus quest printed inside (The Tomb of Garriot)
(Dimensions will be the same as the paperback)

For some reason, Mikael at Megara decided to change the filler illustrations from those in the paperback. These are simply the small incidental images that sometimes appear between entries (to help with layout). I haven't seen the ones he has gone with in the hardback.

I should be getting my copy of the hardback in the next couple of days, so I will post pics on the DQ Facebook and Twitter pages, if they will help.

It's hard to say. The loot cards and the hardback are technically KS exclusives, so those who pledged for the KS and opted for those rewards will be entitled to them first - and I expect there will be limited print runs.

However, perhaps there may be a few left over that Megara might sell on their website or allow me to have - we will have to wait and see what happens.

Just to let you know, Book Four of the DestinyQuest series is now available and in stock on the Megara Entertainment website (http://www.megara-entertainment.com/).

NOTE: this is a paperback version of the book that comes with two laminated A4 maps. There are no maps inside the book.

A version of the paperback with maps inside will be printed, but this is currently delayed.
