So just a brief update on what's been going on here since as you may have noticed there hasn't been any new Page Flippers episodes added in the last few weeks - let me start by saying back in November we lost my aunt to cancer after her third flight with it. I kind of alluded to this back on one of the episodes then but I didn't really explain what was going on. After my aunt passed my grandmother (her mother) wasn't the same and the first week of January she fell and broke her foot. We were trying to keep her spirits up and tried to get her to rehab and get back going but she really wasn't having much of it and she passed in her sleep a few weeks back. On top of all of this I had been contracted out to stream events for stores locally the last few weekends and the timing was not been ideal but I honored those commitments. So all of this is just to state - we will be resuming episodes of Page Flippers once all the family that has flown and driven in has dispersed and things are back to normal. I know the episodes haven't been getting uploaded with the regularity that they were and I am really sorry for that. I appreciate everyone who has supported the series. We should be back on track here shortly.

Thanks, Shadowsam! I'll let Sydney know about Waldo to start Act 3. She loves getting more loot!
In regards to the Legendary monsters - we've had to pick and choose what to film each episode because we really could make this series 40+ episodes or more if we really wanted. And while that would be great, I do have convention commitments this spring, summer and fall. I know that once spring comes around my free time to film, edit, post, etc will become less and less. My goal is to have season 1 all wrapped up by April in time for our first convention. That would put season 1 around the 24-25 episode mark I hope.
I came up with the idea for this series for 2 reasons - 1. Because these books are just terrific and more people need to know about them. 2. A project for us to keep us busy during the slower winter months here.
What I didn't anticipate was filming, editing, post work, etc. These episodes take a lot more time to create than they started out and, while I don't mind that it takes me longer getting them out, a week at a time is sometimes a challenge because of life events and real world responsibilities. Also I didn't know much about film editing when I started this project and it's been a learning process for me as we keep going through the series.
Just to explain the process a little: what appears as 35-45 minutes is actually close to a couple hours of filming and a full evening's worth of editing (and adding sound fx if you watched this week's episode). Again, I'm not complaining. I'm just explaining the process.
Then you have a situation like last Thursday where I hit the upload to YouTube button as soon as I got home from work and three times halfway through the upload process (which takes several hours) it fails to upload so I was up until 12:30AM getting it on YouTube.
Then there has been some other personal things that have been going on while filming this season that I've tried not to effect the uploading schedule. Which maybe I'll let viewers know about when we film the finale. Let's just say last November and January were hard months for our family.
All of this is just my way saying - while we'd love to cover everything in LoS we just can't. Also it's my way of also explaining to you all that when you watch an episode and we say we really appreciate you watching, we do, because this series is something that we put a lot of work on. Every time an episode gets more views or "likes" it really means a lot to us.

Act 3 is more linear than the others so I'd say theres only one efficient way to tackle the quests -

Green quest
orange quest waking the dead (good loot)
orange quest winter hill (this is hard so you need loot for it!)
blue quest
red quest
boss fight

Visit waldo at 783 to buy upgrades. He has really great stuff if you have the gold.

Legendary monsters I am less sure about advising on. Tackle each one as your speed matches or is better. They have good loot so I wouldn't skip them like you have on previous acts. As a rogue you really want to get mortician's scalpel from the mad doctor (557).

Act 3 gets hard so can't wait to see how it goes!

Got it. I appreciate all the help.

Now for the bad news - we started filming this week's episode and we had a file error half way through and the file wouldn't save. So we have to re-shoot it all over again tomorrow night. UGHHH!!! So this week's episode might not get uploaded tomorrow night and instead might go up Friday night. It depends on how fast I can edit. Also our goal is to keep the episodes under 40 minutes each week. We might not be able to get a full quest completed each week but we'll try to keep the action going from week to week. I think the hour+ long session episodes seem to scare viewers away with their length.

To add to what Alziel wrote, you couldn't do Cleave and Deep Wound together because they're both Combat abilities, and you can only use one of those per round (same with Speed abilities). So, if you win a round and are about to roll a damage score, you can't use Deep Wound to roll two dice to add to your Brawn/Magic, and in the same round, use Piercing to have you damage score ignore your opponent's armour. Pick one, and save the other for another round you win.

Modifiers are different, you can use as many of them as you want, at any time they apply. So if you had Dominate, which turns one of the dice you roll for damage to a 6, you could use it with First Strike or Cleave, to change the damage die you rolled to a 6. Or you win a round, roll a low number for damage score, then use Dominate to change that to a 6. And hey, in the same round (heck, even the same instant), you can use a modifier ability like Heal, to heal yourself. In fact, Heal's the rare ability that can be used multiple times per combat, if you have multiple items with Heal. Got three different items with Heal plus one with Dominate? Change any die you rolled for damage to 6, and heal yourself for 12 Health as well

Keep up the good work!

Yep - it can be confusing but the rule is that you never add your Brawn or Magic score to a dice roll unless you are rolling for 'damage score' (keyword being 'score'). The text will always make this clear.

For example, 'Cleave' states that you roll one damage 'die' (not score) and apply the result as health damage to all enemies, ignoring armour. So you wouldn't add anything to this as it is 'damage dice', not a 'damage score'. The text for the ability also states that you use this instead of rolling for a damage score.

'Deep Wound' however, allows you to roll one extra die for damage score, so in this instance you would roll two dice and add your Brawn as you are still rolling for damage 'score'. However, if you had both 'Cleave' and 'Deep Wound', you can't use them together because 'Cleave' replaces your roll for damage score whereas 'Deep Wound' adds to your damage score roll. (i.e. you wouldn't be able to combine the two to do 2 damage dice to each enemy.)

Lots of finicky rules to remember like that!

At 17.08 you add brawn to first strike. You only use the damage you roll, you don't add brawn to damage dice (only when you roll for a "damage score")

We can do that too. I'm just trying to figure out what is going to work best for viewing. Next episode I think I'm going to try to import a picture of the Act2 map before we start our quest. We're slowing getting to where I wanted to be with these episodes based on my idea when I started out this project. I think we'll have everything down to a science by the end of the book. Hahaha
I think fire aura is going to work nicely with the Lightning ability and the increased venom damage now. That passive damage is a terrific.

Fire aura is better than back fire. Back fire is nasty. It does two damage dice to your hero!

Thanks for the clarification, Michael. I sometimes over-think things and I should have just listened to Sydney. Now the question becomes - do we think backfire or fire aura? Let us know and we'll give you a shout out on the next episode!
We had some feedback about listing our abilities at the beginning of our episodes which is a great suggestion. We'll make sure to do that. I'm really trying to get these episodes under an hour for viewer interest and to help with editing now that I've been doing post work to them. Just to give you an idea of how long it takes - that one episode of 37 minutes took several hours to edit and then upload. So I try to take/leave/edit out things I think aren't vital to the viewing experience.
Also let me know how the video quality was in this episode. There should be an improvement. Based on what I can tell there is. I put our new equipment to work this week. Also with our new "studio" mic we didn't seem to have that wonky sound issue like in previous episodes.

Fire aura will only damage your hero's opponents. In the glossary of abilities, whenever you see 'opponents' you can assume that means the monsters/enemies you will be fighting. Anything that affects you (the reader) will refer to the 'hero'. Hope that makes sense.

So equipping the fire aura cloak means that all the hero's opponents will take 1 damage at the end of each combat round. Note that, unlike venom, you don't need to wound them first. This is automatic damage that happens at the end of round 1 for the duration of the combat.

Excellent. Thank you for the feedback. Yeah the sound syncing I noticed during post but I couldn't correct. I think it was a glitch with my broadcasting software, camera and studio mic. Once we get our new camera it should make the picture quality MUCH better and since it will all go through one device the sound shouldn't have that odd syncing glitch that it has occasionally.

I thought the last episode was much better. The editing to make it tighter and run quicker was good. There was some sound syncing issues but didn't spoil the viewing.

I've not seen you use retaliation or piercing that much in combat. I liked the tip about having the abilities on paper as a reminder and consulting them each round. Organise those into groups to help you remember.

I'll have to double check the totals. I'd like to have that brawn up a point or 2 more.
As of right now we have the following abilities:
Charge
First cut
Venom
Lightning
Trickster
Lifespark
Charm X2
Piercing
Retaliation
Heal

There might be more but I know those off the top of my head.

Also has anyone watched that last session? Is it any better/worse than the few previously. I tried to cut out some of the "dead" space, added a title sequence and an end card. I have a much better camera incoming as well which will make the sound and video quality MUCH better. We should be able to start Act 3 with it or possibly before. I wish we could have started out with this set up. Those act 1 episodes are rough since I was just using mobile devices. If we had I think I would have a lot more repeat viewers. I REALLY want to make this a decent product. Hopefully we can keep going and by the time book 1 ends we'll have it perfected!

I wouldn't bother with armour for a rogue but if the item has a good ability then that is okay. Play the rogue with fast speed and high brawn and a lot of passives, and nothing will come close to harming you.

Rogues can also get more evade special abilities that help too. They let you avoid damage when you lose a round. Not that you will much LOL.

Thanks for the tips! I like the sound of all of that. I think our stats now are 10 speed, 8 brawn and 4 armor. Should we be conserned with any of those? I think we took a hit to our speed and brawn but went up in armor by 2 to get some of those abilities.

I'm glad you swelled your gold coffers and got the venom dagger. Now you can wreak some havoc! As someone commented on the video the assassin dude is at 313. I think he should be easy for you now. The assassin career boosts your venom damage and will replace your first cut with the better first strike ability.

First off, thank you very much for watching and for the advice. We'll definitely take on the legendary monster next then.
I'll have to check but I think she has 140 gold? The more we play the more I'm realizing how useful that venom ability is so I like the idea of having that ability back.
I was thinking about returning to the arena, but I wasn't sure if we had "bulked" up enough to take those challengers on.
I really hope we get to Act 3 as well. Hopefully Sydney keeps rolling hot like the last couple episodes.

Hi Doug

I've been catching up with your series and really enjoying it. Brought back some awesome memories of the first book The shadow terror is a tough one right?

Here's some advice for your next moves.

1. Kill the legendary monster in the first part of the map (the assassin guy. can't remember his name). He will give you the assassin career,
2. How much gold do you have? If you have 200 or more then buy the dagger with venom from the tinker at the tavern. But will sydny part with any of her gold??
3. Do some of the arena fights. At your level I guess they will mostly be easy and you get lots of gold and cool items. Think there are about 5 or 6 fights in total and you can do about 4 of them at your level. If you die then you know to gear up and come back later!
4. You could also do the vesuvius legendary. Can't remember what loot he drops but I have a recollection there is something good there. I must dig out my copy again!!

I hope you make it to act 3. May the dice be good to you

edit: vesuvius gives flame mantle cloak +2 speed +1 armour and fire aura (1 damage to all opponents a round.)
